Near-real-time daily estimates of fossil fuel CO2 emissions from major high-emission cities in China

Published in Scientific Data, Huo, D., Liu, K., Liu, J., ... , Liu, Z. , 2022

In this paper, we present present Carbon Monitor Cities-China (CMCC), a near-real-time dataset of daily CO2 emissions from fossil fuel and cement production for 48 major high-emission cities in China. CMCC is developed based on an innovative framework that integrates bottom-up inventory construction and daily emission estimates from sectoral activities and models.

Modeling the Feedbacks Between Surface Ablation and Morphological Variations on the Debris-Covered Baltoro Glacier in the Central Karakoram

Published in Geomorphology, Huo, D., Bishop, M. P., Young, B. W. & Chi, Z., 2021

This paper focuses on feedbacks between glacier surface melt, topography and debris transport.Other findings include: 1 Numerical models are developed to study the feedbacks on glacier surface. 2 Gravitational process on an evolving topography redistributes debris thickness. 3 Ice loss on a bare-ice glacier is sensitive to topographic shading. 4 Complex surface topography may enhance ice loss on a debris-covered glacier.

Understanding Complex Debris-Covered Glaciers: Concepts, Issues and Research Directions

Published in Frontiers in Earth Science, Huo, D., Bishop, M. P. & Bush, A., 2021

This paper is about glacier modeling. Our results demonstrate that climate forcing, the properties and transport of debris, topography and supraglacial water bodies are the key controlling factors in a debris-covered glacier system, and that their coupled effects and positive feedbacks may increase the ice loss of a debris-covered glacier. We also recommend new research directions for future studies.

Modeling Surface Processes on Debris-Covered Glaciers: A Review with Reference to the High Mountain Asia

Published in Water, Huo, D., Chi, Z. & Ma, A., 2021

This review summarizes our current knowledge of surface processes on debris-covered glaciers with an emphasis on the related modeling efforts. We present an integrated view on how numerical modeling provide insights into glacier surface ablation, supraglacial debris transport, morphological variation, pond dynamics, and ice-cliff evolution. We also highlight the remote sensing approaches that facilitate modeling, and discuss the limitations of existing models regarding their capabilities to address coupled processes on debris-covered glaciers and suggest research directions.
